History of the Faculty

The Faculty of Economic Law was established on the basis of the Faculty of Law of the Tajik State University named after V. I. Lenin in 1954. In the same year, the Department of Sectoral Economics was created, which employed three full-time teachers: Academician I. K. Narzikulov, Associate Professor K. S. Sanginov, and laboratory assistant and postgraduate student A. J. Vafoev (since 1955). The first head of the department was I. K. Narzikulov (1954-1971). The first dean of this faculty was V. G. Granberg. In the 1956-1957 academic year, thanks to the efforts of Rector Ibodullo Narzikulov, a separate Faculty of Economics was created at the Tajik State University named after V. I. Lenin. In the 1960-1970s, the first heads of the newly created Faculty of Economics were Academician R. K. Rakhimov, Associate Professor H. K. Kurbonov and E.I. Dubrovin.
Since 1960, the Department of Industrial Economics was divided into two independent departments: the Department of Industrial Economics and the Department of Agricultural and Trade Economics (headed by N.S. Nazarova). Soon, the Department of Agricultural and Trade Economics was also divided into two independent departments: the Department of Agricultural Economics and the Department of Trade Economics. The Department of Agricultural Economics was initially headed by M.J. Dzhumaev, then by E.S. Sevlikyan. The first head of the Department of Trade Economics was N.S. Nazarova, then by Associate Professor S. Khabibov.
In 1980, the Faculty of Economics was divided into two independent departments: Planning and Economics and Finance and Accounting. In 1991, the Planning and Economics Department was renamed the Faculty of Commerce and Management. In October 1985, the Department of Information Systems in Economics was incorporated into the faculty. Due to the opening of new programs and specializations, the faculty was renamed the Faculty of Economics and Management in June 1996.
